Course Override Request Email

Course overrides are usually granted for one of a few legitimate reasons: the course is required for your degree, you've met the prerequisite through equivalent coursework, or it's the only section that fits your schedule. Lead with that reason, clearly, and keep the rest brief.

Three things that help

  1. State the reason up front. Don't bury it — the reader should know in the first line why this is a legitimate request.
  2. Include your student ID. It saves them a step and shows you're organized.
  3. Check the policy first. Many schools have a specific override form or process; using it is faster than emailing.

Overrides are often decided quickly, so if you don't hear back in a few days, a brief follow-up is reasonable — especially if enrollment is filling up.
